One bay, four areas

Pattaya is the largest city in Chonburi province, about 150 km south-east of Bangkok. The postcode on most city addresses is 20150. Locals and long-stay visitors tend to describe the place by area rather than by street, so learn these four words before you fill in the order form.

• Naklua to the north, a quieter district with its own beach and the Sanctuary of Truth, which sits at soi 12 on Pattaya-Naklua Road.
• Central Pattaya, the middle of the bay, where the beachfront and the streets behind it are packed tightly.
• South Pattaya and Walking Street, at the southern end of the beach road.
• Jomtien, a separate beach about 3 km south of Pattaya, which is 6 km long.

Wong Amat and Pratumnak (the hill locals call Buddha Hill) are further names you will see in addresses. They are smaller areas inside the same city.

Three parallel roads and what they mean

Central Pattaya is built around a ladder of roads. Beach Road, also called ถนนหาดพัทยา (thanon Hat Pattaya) or First Road, runs along the sand. Second Road runs parallel and is one way, from south to north. Third Road is the next road back, and it eventually meets Thepprasit Road and the way to Jomtien.

At the end of Beach Road, where Third Road starts, is Walking Street. South of South Pattaya Road, Second Road turns into Pratamnak Road, which meets Tappraya Road at a junction. Tappraya Road is the main road to Jomtien.

This matters for the order. If your recipient writes only "near Second Road", ask which stretch. Central Second Road and Pratumnak are in practice far apart, and sois off the same road can be several minutes by car from each other. The map pin is again more reliable than the street name.

Condo towers and Pattaya's long-stay residents

Jomtien and the Pratumnak hill are lined with condominiums. Many new condominiums and housing developments have been built in the area, and the buyers include Bangkok residents with holiday flats and foreign retirees. Norwegian communities are noted on Phra Tamnak Hill, and Russians and Scandinavians are among the regular visitors to Jomtien.

For you as a sender, this means many Pattaya recipients are living in a tower with a front desk, a keycard lift and a rule about visitors. Write the building name, the tower letter, the floor and the unit number. A note such as "please leave with reception" only works if the recipient has agreed to it. Beachfront hotels along the bay behave in the same way: the front desk accepts the arrangement and calls the room. Put the guest's name exactly as on the booking.

Getting around is part of the picture

Local transport includes songthaews (shared pickup trucks), metered taxis and motorbike taxis. Motorways 7 and 34 leading in from the capital. Suvarnabhumi Airport is about 120 km away and U-Tapao about 40 km, which is useful if the recipient is arriving on a flight and you want to time a gift for their first evening.

If you are weighing Pattaya against a more urban destination, compare it with Bangkok, where the address system is built around sois and skytrain stations rather than a beachfront ladder.

Dates worth knowing

Wan Lai. Pattaya celebrates Songkran late, in its own way. In 2026 the Wan Lai Naklua event was on 18 April at Lan Pho Naklua and Naklua Public Park, and Wan Lai Pattaya was on 19 April at Wat Chai Mongkol Royal Monastery, with beach entertainment from 17 to 19 April. Expect water, crowds and parades.

International Fireworks Festival. The 2026 edition is on 27 and 28 November at Pattaya Beach, with teams competing over the sea. Hotels on the bay fill early, and rooftop restaurants are popular places to watch. If you want a bouquet to be waiting in a room that weekend, order well ahead.
